Regranex

Drug Info for regranex

Becaplermin gel is used as part of a total treatment program to help heal certain ulcers (sores) of the foot, ankle, or leg in people who have diabetes. Becaplermin gel must be used along with good ulcer care including: removal of dead tissue by a medical professional; the use of special shoes, walkers, crutches, or wheelchairs to keep weight off the ulcer; and treatment of any infections that develop. Becaplermin cannot be used to treat ulcers that have been stitched or stapled. Becaplermin is a human platelet-derived growth factor, a substance naturally produced by the body that helps in wound healing. It works by helping to repair and replace dead skin and other tissues, attracting cells that repair wounds, and helping to close and heal the ulcer.

Regranex is used to treat foot ulcers in diabetic patients. Regranex is a brand-name of Becaplermin. The average Regranex price is quite expensive, at about $1,254 for 15 grams of 0.01% topical gel. However, you can use our OptionRx savings offer to get an average Regranex discount of up to 80% at participating pharmacies near you.

Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Depending on how quickly your skin ulcer heals, your doctor may change the dose of your medicine. Use of more medicine than your doctor prescribed will not help your skin ulcer heal more quickly.

Use a cotton swab, tongue depressor, or other applicator aid to spread an thin, even layer of gel over the surface of the skin ulcer.

Cover the skin ulcer with a gauze dressing that has been moistened with saline solution. Leave the skin ulcer covered for 12 hours. After 12 hours, remove the gauze. Carefully rinse the skin ulcer with saline or water to remove any medicine that remains. Do not apply more medicine. Put another saline-moistened gauze dressing on the area for the next 12 hours.

Do not let the tip of the tube touch the skin ulcer or any other object. Close the tube tightly after each use.
