Desvenlafaxine is used to treat depression. Desvenlafaxine is in a class of medications called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). It works by increasing the amounts of serotonin and norepinephrine, natural substances in the brain that help maintain mental balance.
Desvenlafaxine Succinate ER is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) that works by helping to restore the balance of serotonin and norepinephrine; natural substances in the brain. It is used to treat persons diagnosed with depression.

Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you. It is best to take this medicine at the same time each day.
Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not dissolve, crush, break, or chew it.
You may have to take this medicine for several weeks before you feel better. If you feel that the medicine is not working well, do not take more than your normal dose. Call your doctor for instructions.

Do not use this medicine together with an MAO inhibitor (MAOI) or if you have used an MAOI within the past 14 days. Do not take an MAOI for at least 7 days after you stop this medicine.
