Nisoldipine is used to treat high blood pressure. Nisoldipine is in a class of medications called calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing your blood vessels so your heart does not have to pump as hard. High blood pressure is a common condition and when not treated, can cause damage to the brain, heart, blood vessels, kidneys and other parts of the body. Damage to these organs may cause heart disease, a heart attack, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, loss of vision, and other problems. In addition to taking medication, making lifestyle changes will also help to control your blood pressure. These changes include eating a diet that is low in fat and salt, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising at least 30 minutes most days, not smoking, and using alcohol in moderation.

Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you.

Swallow the extended-release tablet whole. Do not crush, break, or chew it.

Oral routeIt is best to take this medicine on an empty stomach.

You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to nisoldipine or to similar medicines (such as verapamil, Adalat®, Calan®, Cardizem®, Lotrel®, Plendil®, Procardia®).

Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have heart disease, liver disease, stomach problems, or aortic stenosis (narrowing of a valve in your heart).

This medicine may make you dizzy or lightheaded. Avoid driving, using machines, or doing anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert.

Do not stop using this medicine suddenly. Your doctor will need to slowly decrease your dose before you stop it completely.

Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.

Rapid weight gain.

Shortness of breath or wheezing.

Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet.

Unusual tiredness or weakness.

Warmth or redness in your face, neck, arms, or upper chest.

There are many other medicines that can interact with nisoldipine. Make sure your doctor knows about ALL other medicines you are using. This includes over-the-counter medicines that can increase your blood pressure (such as diet pills, cold and allergy medicines, or asthma medicines).

Do not drink alcohol while you are using this medicine.

Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while you are using this medicine.

Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.

  • Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet.
  • Rapid weight gain.
  • Unusual tiredness or weakness.
  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Chest pain.
  • Fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats.
  • Lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting.
  • Warmth or redness in your face, neck, arms, or upper chest.
  • Shortness of breath or wheezing.
  • Cough, runny or stuffy nose, or sore throat.
  • Headache.
  • Skin rash.
  • Stomach discomfort or nausea.
