Felodipine is used to treat high blood pressure. Felodipine is in a class of medications called calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing the blood vessels so your heart does not have to pump as hard. Damage to these organs may cause heart disease, a heart attack, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, loss of vision, and other problems. In addition to taking medication, making lifestyle changes will also help to control your blood pressure. These changes include eating a diet that is low in fat and salt, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising at least 30 minutes most days, not smoking, and using alcohol in moderation.

Felodipine is a medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Felodipine belongs to a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers. This drug works by relaxing the muscles in the blood vessel walls. Felodipine is a generic drug also sold under the brand name Plendil. The patent on felodipine expired in 2007. In the treatment of high blood pressure, felodipine use is common.

Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using cimetidine (Tagamet®), tacrolimus (Prograf®), medicine to treat an infection (such as erythromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, Nizoral®), or medicine to treat seizures (such as carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, Dilantin®).

Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while you are using this medicine.

Do not stop using this medicine without asking your doctor, even if you feel well. This medicine will not cure your high blood pressure, but it will help keep it in normal range. You may have to take blood pressure medicine for the rest of your life.
