Folic acid is used to treat or prevent folic acid deficiency. It is a B-complex vitamin needed by the body to manufacture red blood cells. A deficiency of this vitamin causes certain types of anemia (low red blood cell count).

Folic Acid is a type of vitamin B used to treat folate deficiency which can lead to anemia. Folic Acid is a generic drug. You should not use this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to folic acid.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, tell your doctor. It is very important during this time to take the correct vitamins in the right amounts.

Your doctor may ask you to eat more foods that contain folic acid. Good sources of folic acid are fruits, green leafy vegetables, liver, kidney, and breads made with dried yeast.

If you are taking Questran® or Colestid®, take your folic acid dose 1 hour before or at least 4 hours after the other medicine.

Make sure your doctor knows if you are taking Dilantin®.
