Drug Info for dificid
Fidaxomicin is used to treat diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile (C. difficile; a type of bacteria that may cause severe or life-threatening diarrhea) in adults and children 6 months of age and older. Fidaxomicin is in a class of medications called macrolide antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria in the intestines. Fidaxomicin will not treat infections in any other part of the body. Antibiotics such as fidaxomicin will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. Taking antibiotics when they are not needed increases your risk of getting an infection later that resists antibiotic treatment.
Dificid treats Clostridium Difficile-Associated Diarrhea (CDAD). There is not a generic version of Dificid currently available. Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
Take all of the medicine in your prescription to clear up your infection, even if you feel better after the first few doses.
Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Store the mixed suspension in the refrigerator for up to 12 days. Throw away any unused medicine after 12 days.

Swallow the tablets whole. Do not crush, break, or chew it.
Oral suspension: Remove the bottle of mixed suspension from the refrigerator 15 minutes before using it and shake it well. Measure the oral liquid medicine with a marked measuring spoon, oral syringe, or medicine cup.
