Colestipol Hcl

Drug Info for colestipol hcl

Colestipol is used along with diet changes to decrease the amount of fatty substances such as low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol ('bad cholesterol') in certain people with high cholesterol. Colestipol is in a class of medications called bile acid sequestrants. It works by binding bile acids in your intestines to form a product that is removed from the body.

Colestid is a cholesterol-lowering drug that comes in the form of oral granules for reconstitution. It is used to treat high cholesterol and works by lowering low-density lipoprotein, also known and LDL or "bad cholesterol", in the blood. Lowering your LDL cholesterol may reduce your risk of hardened arteries, which can lead to stroke, heart attacks, and circulation problems. Common side effects may include constipation or hemorrhoids.
