Amitriptyline is used to treat symptoms of depression. Amitriptyline is in a class of medications called tricyclic antidepressants. It works by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain that are needed to maintain mental balance.

Chlordiazepoxide-Amitriptyline contains benzodiazepine and a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) and is used to treat patients with depression caused by anxiety. This combination drug works by targeting the chemicals in the brain that may be unbalanced causing depression and anxiety.
