Benztropine is used along with other medications to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD; a disorder of the nervous system that causes difficulties with movement, muscle control, and balance) and tremors caused by other medical problems or medications. Benztropine is in a class of medications called anticholinergics. It works by blocking a certain natural substance (acetylcholine) to help to decrease symptoms in people with Parkinson's disease.
Benztropine mesylate is a medication used to treat Parkinson’s disease. The drug is also used to treat movement problems associated with certain psychiatric drugs. Benztropine mesylate belongs to a class of drugs called anticholinergics. Benztropine mesylate is a generic drug also sold under the brand name Cogentin. Benztropine mesylate has been available for years. In the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and other movement problems, benztropine mesylate use is common.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
Oral liquid: Measure the oral liquid medicine with a marked measuring spoon, oral syringe, or medicine cup.
Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you.
This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to benztropine.
