The combination of dextroamphetamine and amphetamine (Adderall, Adderall XR, Mydayis) is used as part of a treatment program to control symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD; more difficulty focusing, controlling actions, and remaining still or quiet than other people who are the same age). Adderall is used to treat ADHD in adults and children 3 years of age and older. Adderall XR is used to treat ADHD in adults and children 6 years of age and older. Mydayis is used to treat ADHD in adults and children 13 years of age and older. Dextroamphetamine and amphetamine (Adderall) is also used to treat narcolepsy (a sleep disorder that causes excessive daytime sleepiness and sudden attacks of sleep) in adults and children 12 years of age and older. The combination of dextroamphetamine and amphetamine is in a class of medications called central nervous system stimulants. It works by changing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain.

Tablet: Take the tablet in the morning and early afternoon. You may have trouble falling asleep if you take it at night.

Do not crush, break, or chew it.If you cannot swallow the capsule, you may open it and sprinkle the contents over a spoonful of applesauce. Swallow the mixture right away without chewing.You may take the capsule with or without food, but make sure to take it the same way each time.

Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to amphetamine, dextroamphetamine, or similar medicines, or if you have glaucoma, an overactive thyroid, or a history of drug abuse.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have heart or blood vessel disease (including arteriosclerosis), kidney disease, heart rhythm problems, high blood pressure, or a history of heart attack, stroke, seizures, or Tourette syndrome. Seizures

Some foods and medicines can affect how this medicine works. Do not drink alcohol while you are using this medicine.

Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

Do not use this medicine if you are using or you have used an MAO inhibitor (MAOI) within the past 14 days.

  • Fast, slow, pounding, or uneven heartbeat
  • Numb, cold, pale, or painful fingers or toes, unexplained wounds on the fingers or toes
