Vaginal clotrimazole is used to treat vaginal yeast infections in adults and children 12 years of age and older. Clotrimazole is in a class of antifungal medications called imidazoles. It works by stopping the growth of fungi that cause infection.
Clotrimazole comes in the form of a cream and is used to treat skin infections caused by fungus such as athlete’s foot, ringworm and yeast infections. It kills fungi and yeast by interfering with their cellular membranes. Common side effects include severe blistering of treated skin, swelling, redness or oozing.
