Drug Info for xerava

Eravacycline injection used to treat infections of the abdomen (stomach area). Eravacycline injection is in a class of medications called tetracycline antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria that cause infection. Antibiotics such as eravacycline injection will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. Using antibiotics when they are not needed increases your risk of getting an infection later that resists antibiotic treatment.

Injection routeYour doctor will prescribe your dose and schedule. This medicine is given through a needle placed in a vein. This medicine must be given slowly, so the needle will have to stay in place for about 60 minutes.

Injection routeA nurse or other health provider will give you this medicine.

This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to eravacycline or similar medicines.

This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Wear sunscreen. Do not use sunlamps or tanning beds.

Tell your doctor if you have liver disease.

This medicine can cause diarrhea. Call your doctor if the diarrhea becomes severe, does not stop, or is bloody. Do not take any medicine to stop diarrhea until you have talked to your doctor. Diarrhea can occur 2 months or more after you stop taking this medicine.

This medicine may cause the following problems:Permanent change in tooth color and stopping of bone growth (in children younger than 8 years of age)Increased pressure inside the headPancreatitis (swelling of the pancreas)Liver problems

Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. You should not receive this medicine during the second or third part of your pregnancy.

Do not breastfeed during treatment with this medicine and for 4 days after the last dose.

Some medicines can affect how eravacycline works. Tell your doctor if you are using a blood thinner (including warfarin).

  • Severe headache, dizziness, vision changes
  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, yellow skin or eyes
  • Sudden and severe stomach pain, lightheadedness
  • Slow growth
  • Diarrhea that may contain blood
  • Pain, itching, burning, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the needle was placed
