Crizotinib is used to treat certain types of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that has spread to nearby tissues or to other parts of the body. It is also used to treat a certain type of anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) that has returned or is unresponsive to other treatment(s) in certain adults and children 1 year of age and older. Crizotinib is also used to treat a certain type of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT; type of cancer that occurs in mucosal tissues usually in the abdominal area, involving the lungs, bladder, stomach, uterus, liver, or intestines) that cannot be treated with surgery or that has not improved or has come back after previous treatment(s) in adults and children 1 year of age and older. Crizotinib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of a certain naturally occurring substance that may be needed to help cancer cells multiply.

Xalkori is an oral capsule taken by adults to treat non-small cell lung cancer. It decreases or destroys the growth of cancerous cells found in the lungs of patients diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer.

Missed dose: If your next dose is more than 6 hours away, take the missed dose as soon as you can. If your next dose is less than 6 hours away, wait until then to use the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for the missed dose. If you vomit after you take a dose, do not take an extra dose. Take the next dose at the regular time.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you.

Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush, chew, or split it.

If you are not able to swallow the capsule whole. You may use the oral pellets. Do not chew or crush the oral pellets, or swallow the shell containing the oral pellets.

Oral pellets: Open the shell and empty the contents directly into the mouth. You may also empty the pellets into a medicine cup or dry spoon and then pour them into the mouth. Drink enough water to make sure all oral pellets are swallowed.

Oral routeYou may also receive medicines to help prevent nausea and vomiting. Drink plenty of fluids to help prevent dehydration.

This medicine should come with a Medication Guide. Ask your pharmacist for a copy if you do not have one.

This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you are pregnant.

This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Wear sunscreen. Do not use sunlamps or tanning beds.

Oral routeMedicines used to treat cancer are very strong and can have many side effects. Before receiving this medicine, make sure you understand all the risks and benefits. It is important for you to work closely with your doctor during your treatment.

Oral routeThis medicine may cause birth defects if either partner is using it during conception or pregnancy. Tell your doctor right away if you or your partner becomes pregnant. If you are a woman who can get pregnant, your doctor may do tests to make sure you are not pregnant before starting treatment. Use an effective form of birth control during treatment with this medicine and for at least 45 days after the last dose. Male patients with female partners should use an effective form of birth control during treatment and for at least 90 days after the last dose.

Do not breastfeed during treatment with this medicine and for 45 days after the last dose.

Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, congestive heart failure, heart rhythm problems (including QT prolongation), or a mineral imbalance.
