Sevelamer Carbonate

Drug Info for sevelamer carbonate

Sevelamer is used to control high blood levels of phosphorus in people with chronic kidney disease who are on dialysis (medical treatment to clean the blood when the kidneys are not working properly). Sevelamer is in a class of medications called phosphate binders. It binds phosphorus that you get from foods in your diet and prevents it from being absorbed into your blood stream.

Sevelamer Carbonate is a phosphate binder drug used to treat patients with kidney disease who are on dialysis. This drug helps to lower high levels of phosphate in the body by attaching itself to the phosphate from food so that it can pass out your body. Reducing blood phosphate levels can minimize the risk of a stroke and heart disease. It also can keep your bones strong and healthy.
