Letermovir is used to help prevent cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and disease in certain people who have received a hematopoietic stem-cell transplant (HSCT; a procedure that replaces diseased bone marrow with healthy bone marrow) and are at increased risk of developing a CMV infection. Letermovir is in a class of medications called antivirals. It works by slowing the growth of CMV.

Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

Injection routeYour doctor will prescribe your dose and schedule. This medicine is given through a needle placed in a vein. This medicine must be given slowly, so the needle will have to stay in place for over an hour.

This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to letermovir.

Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease or liver disease.

Do not use pitavastatin or simvastatin if you receive this medicine together with cyclosporine.

You should not receive this medicine together with pimozide or ergot medicines.

Some medicines can affect how letermovir works. Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following:Alfentanil, amiodarone, bosentan, fentanyl, midazolam, modafinil, nafcillin, phenytoin, quinidine, rifabutin, rifampin, sirolimus, tacrolimus, thioridazine, voriconazole, St John wortBlood thinner medicine (including warfarin)HIV medicine (including efavirenz, etravirine, nevirapine)Medicine to lower cholesterol (including atorvastatin, fluvastatin, lovastatin, pravastatin, rosuvastatin)Oral diabetes medicine (including glyburide, repaglinide, rosiglitazone)Proton pump inhibitor (including omeprazole, pantoprazole)Seizure medicine (including carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin)

  • Rapid weight gain, swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet
  • Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches
  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Pain, itching, burning, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the needle is placed
  • Tiredness or weakness
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain
  • Tiredness or weakness
