Drug Info for piroxicam
Piroxicam is used to relieve pain, tenderness, swelling, and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis (arthritis caused by a breakdown of the lining of the joints) and rheumatoid arthritis (arthritis caused by swelling of the lining of the joints). Piroxicam is in a class of medications called NSAIDs. It works by stopping the body's production of a substance that causes pain, fever, and inflammation.
Feldene is a prescription-only nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is taken to relieve pain associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. This medication works by blocking the enzymes responsible for causing pain and inflammation.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed.
Oral routeIt is best to take this medicine with food or milk.
Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush, break, or chew it.
This medicine should come with a Medication Guide. Ask your pharmacist for a copy if you do not have one.
Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to piroxicam, aspirin, or similar medicine. Do not use it if right before or after a heart surgery called coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. Do not use this medicine during the later part of a pregnancy, unless your doctor tells you to.
Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, asthma, bleeding problems, heart failure, high blood pressure, other heart or circulation problems, a recent heart attack, or a history of stomach or bowel problems (including bleeding or ulcers). Tell your doctor if you smoke or drink alcohol.
This medicine may cause the following problems:Increased risk of blot clots, heart attack, stroke, or heart failureStomach or bowel problems (including bleeding, ulcers, or perforation)Kidney problemsLiver problemsHigh blood pressureSerious skin reactions, including exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS)Changes in vision
This medicine may cause a delay in ovulation for women and may affect their ability to have children. If you plan to have children, talk with your doctor before using this medicine.
Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
Numbness or weakness on one side of your body, sudden or severe headache, problems with vision, speech, or walking
Rapid weight gain, swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet
Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness
Do not use any other NSAID unless your doctor says it is okay. Some other NSAIDs are aspirin, celecoxib, diclofenac, diflunisal, ibuprofen, naproxen, or salsalate.
Some foods and medicines can affect how piroxicam works. Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following:Cyclosporine, digoxin, lithium, methotrexate, pemetrexedBlood pressure medicine (including ACE inhibitors, ARBs, beta blockers)Blood thinner (including warfarin)Diuretic (water pill)Medicine to treat depression (including SNRIs, SSRIs)Steroid medicine

- Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes
- Bloody or black, tarry stools, severe stomach pain, vomiting blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
- Dizziness
- Constipation, diarrhea, passing gas
