Palonosetron Hcl

Drug Info for palonosetron hcl

Palonosetron injection is used to prevent nausea and vomiting that may occur within 24 hours after receiving cancer chemotherapy or surgery. It is also used to prevent delayed nausea and vomiting that may occur several days after receiving certain chemotherapy medications. Palonosetron injection is in a class of medications called 5-HT3 receptor antagonists. It works by blocking the action of serotonin, a natural substance that may cause nausea and vomiting.

Injection routeYour doctor will prescribe your dose and schedule. This medicine is given through a needle placed in a vein.

Injection routeA nurse or other health provider will give you this medicine.

This medicine is usually given about 30 minutes before the start of chemotherapy or right before you receive anesthetic medicine for surgery.

Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to palonosetron.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you had an allergic reaction to another medicine for nausea or vomiting.

This medicine may cause a serious drug reaction called serotonin syndrome (more likely if used together with certain other medicines).

Chest pain, fast, slow, pounding, or uneven heartbeat

Lightheadedness, dizziness, fainting

Some medicines can affect how palonosetron works. Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following:Fentanyl, lithium, tramadol, mirtazapineMedicine to treat depressionMAO inhibitor (MAOI)

This medicine may cause a serious drug reaction called serotonin syndrome (more likely if used together with certain other medicines).

  • Anxiety, restlessness, fever, sweating, muscle spasms, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, seeing or hearing things that are not there
  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Lightheadedness, dizziness, fainting
  • Chest pain, fast, slow, pounding, or uneven heartbeat
  • Pain, redness, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the needle is placed
