Nystatin is used to treat fungal infections of the inside of the mouth and lining of the stomach and intestines. Nystatin is in a class of antifungal medications called polyenes. It works by stopping the growth of fungi that cause infection.

Nystatin is a medication used to treat fungal infections. Nystatin is effective against vaginal yeast infections and fungal infections of the skin, mouth, and esophagus (“food pipe”). Nystatin is a generic medication also sold under the brand names Mycostatin, Nyamyc, Pedi-Dri, and Nystop. Nystatin was discovered in 1950 and has been available generically for many years. In the treatment of fungal infections, nystatin use is very common.

Do not give the lozenge to infants or children younger than 5 years old.

Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush or chew.

Add 1/8 teaspoonful of the dry powder to 1/2 cup of water. Stir well. Keep this mixture in your mouth for as long as possible. Swish it around, gargle, and swallow.
