Drug Info for nabumetone

Nabumetone is used to relieve pain, tenderness, swelling, and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis (arthritis caused by a breakdown of the lining of the joints) and rheumatoid arthritis (arthritis caused by swelling of the lining of the joints). Nabumetone is in a class of medications called NSAIDs. It works by stopping the body's production of a substance that causes pain, fever, and inflammation.

Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you.

This medicine should come with a Medication Guide. Ask your pharmacist for a copy if you do not have one.

Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to nabumetone, aspirin, or similar medicines. Do not use it right before or after a heart surgery called coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. Do not use this medicine during the later part of a pregnancy, unless your doctor tells you to.

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, anemia, asthma, high blood pressure, or a history of stomach or bowel problems (including bleeding, ulcers).

Yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes.

Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness.

Vomiting blood or something that looks like coffee grounds.

Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet.

Skin rash or blisters with fever.

Sudden or severe headache.

Shortness of breath, cold sweat, and bluish-colored skin.

Severe stomach pain.

Rapid weight gain.

Problems with vision, speech, or walking.

Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

Pain in your lower leg (calf).

Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect certain medical test results.

Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

This medicine may cause the following problems:Increased risk of blood clots, heart attack, stroke, or heart failureStomach or bowel problems (including bleeding, ulcers, or perforation)Liver problemsHigh blood pressureKidney problemsSerious skin reactions, including exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS)

This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Wear sunscreen. Do not use sunlamps or tanning beds.

Do not use aspirin or any other NSAID medicine (including diclofenac, diflunisal, ibuprofen, naproxen, salsalate) unless your doctor says it is okay.

Some medicines can affect how nabumetone works. Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following:Lithium, methotrexateBlood pressure medicine (including ACE inhibitors, ARBs)Blood thinner (including warfarin)Diuretic (water pill)Medicine to treat depression (including SNRIs, SSRIs)Steroid medicine
