Fam-trastuzumab deruxtecan-nxki injection is used to treat a certain type of breast cancer that cannot be removed by surgery, that has spread to other parts of the body, or has come back after another breast cancer treatment. It is also used to treat certain types of gastric cancer (cancer of the stomach) in adults that has spread to nearby tissues or to other parts of the body after receiving another treatment. Fam-trastuzumab deruxtecan-nxki injection is also used to treat a certain type of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in adults that cannot be removed by surgery or that has spread to other parts of the body after receiving another treatment. Fam-trastuzumab deruxtecan-nxki is in a class of medications called antibody-drug conjugates. It works by killing cancer cells.

Kadcyla is used to treat adults with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) positive breast cancer that has spread. It is used after unsuccessful treatment with other anticancer medications. Kadcyla inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It is available as an injection.

Injection routeYou will receive this medicine while you are in a hospital or cancer treatment center. A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine.

Injection routeYour doctor will prescribe your dose and schedule. This medicine is given through a needle placed in a vein. The medicine must be given slowly, so the needle will have to stay in place for at least 30 to 90 minutes.

Missed dose: Injection routeThis medicine needs to be given on a fixed schedule. If you miss a dose, call your doctor, home health caregiver, or treatment clinic for instructions.

This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to trastuzumab or ado-trastuzumab, or if you are pregnant.

Injection routeThis medicine may cause birth defects if either partner is using it during conception or pregnancy. Tell your doctor right away if you or your partner becomes pregnant. Female patients should use an effective form of birth control during treatment and for 7 months after the last dose. Male patients with female partners should use an effective form of birth control during treatment and for 4 months after the last dose.

Do not breastfeed during treatment with this medicine and for 7 months after the last dose.

Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, heart disease, lung disease, heart failure, or bleeding problems.

Some medicines can affect how ado-trastuzumab works. Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following: Atazanavir, clarithromycin, indinavir, itraconazole, ketoconazole, nefazodone, nelfinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir, telithromycin, voriconazoleBlood thinner (including warfarin)

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding, or if you have liver disease, bleeding problems, heart disease, heart failure, or lung disease.

  • Pain, redness, itching, burning, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the needle is placed
  • Numbness, tingling, or burning pain in your hands, arms, legs, or feet
  • Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness, nosebleeds
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
  • Rapid weight gain, swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet
  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Chest pain, trouble breathing, cough, uneven heartbeat
  • Chills, fever, fast heartbeat, warmth or redness of the skin
  • Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes
  • Headache
  • Constipation, mild nausea or vomiting
  • Tiredness
  • Muscle, joint, or bone pain
