Indapamide

Indapamide is a medication used to treat high blood pressure or remove excess body fluid. This drug belongs to a class of medications called thiazide-like diuretics. Indapamide works by increasing the amount of fluid and salt excreted in your urine. Indapamide is a generic drug also sold under the brand name Lozol. This drug has been available for years. In the treatment of high blood pressure and fluid buildup, indapamide use is common.

Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you.

This medicine should be taken in the morning.

Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to indapamide or sulfa drugs, or if you cannot pass urine.

Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, heart rhythm problems, diabetes, lupus, gout, or trouble urinating. Tell your doctor if you had any type of surgery.

This medicine may cause the following problems:Eye or vision problems, including glaucoma, myopiaHigh uric acid in the bloodParathyroid gland problems

Do not stop using this medicine without asking your doctor, even if you feel well. This medicine will not cure high blood pressure, but it will help keep it in normal range. You may have to take blood pressure medicine for the rest of your life.

Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect certain medical test results.

Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

Some medicines can affect how indapamide works. Tell your doctor if you are also using digoxin, lithium, or steroid medicine.

Do not stop using this medicine without asking your doctor, even if you feel well. This medicine will not cure high blood pressure, but it will help keep it in normal range. You may have to take blood pressure medicine for the rest of your life.

• Blurred vision or changes in vision
• Change in how much or how often you urinate
• Blistering, peeling, red skin rash
• Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
• Lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
• Fast, slow, pounding, or uneven heartbeat
• Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness
• Dry mouth, increased thirst, muscle cramps, nausea or vomiting
• Swelling in your hands, feet, ankles, or legs, tiredness
• Confusion, weakness, muscle twitching
• Constipation, diarrhea, loss of appetite, stomach pain or upset
