Emicizumab-kxwh injection is used to prevent or reduce the frequency of bleeding in adults, children, and infants with hemophilia A (condition in which the blood does not clot normally because of a missing or faulty blood clotting factor). Emicizumab-kxwh is in a class of medications called hemostatic antibodies. It works by acting as a bridge between clotting factors to help your blood clot.

  • By injection

Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Injection routeYou will be shown the body areas where this shot can be given. Use a different body area each time you give yourself a shot. Keep track of where you give each shot to make sure you rotate body areas.

Injection routeA nurse or other health provider will give you this medicine.

Injection routeYou may be taught how to give your medicine at home. Make sure you understand all instructions before giving yourself an injection. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to.

Injection routeIf you store this medicine at home, keep it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. Store it in its original carton. You may store the unopened vial at room temperature if needed, and then return to the refrigerator. It should not be stored out of the refrigerator for more than 7 days. Throw away any unused medicine left in the vial.

Do not inject into skin areas that are tender, red, bruised, hard, or not intact, or into areas with moles or scars.

Check the medicine in the vial. It should be colorless or slightly yellow. Do not use the medicine if the liquid is discolored or has particles in it. Do not shake.

Injection routeUse a new needle and syringe each time you inject your medicine.

Injection routeYour doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given. This medicine is given as a shot under your skin. It is usually injected into the upper outer arms, thighs, or stomach.

This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to emicizumab-kxwh.

Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

This medicine may cause the following problems:Thrombotic microangiopathy (blood vessel damage)Increased risk for blood clots

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have blood vessel problems.

Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect certain medical test results.

Women should use an effective form of birth control to keep from getting pregnant. Tell your doctor right away if you think you have become pregnant.

Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

  • Numbness or weakness in your arm or leg, or on one side of your body
  • Sudden or severe headache, problems with vision, speech, or walking
  • Chest pain, coughing up blood
  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Pain in your lower leg (calf)
  • Diarrhea
  • Pain, itching, burning, redness, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the shot is given
  • Joint or muscle pain
