Drug Info for flucytosine

Ancobon is used to treat severe infections in patients caused by fungi. This prescription-only medication reduces the growth of infectious fungi within the body to relieve the fungal infection.

Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed.

Swallow one capsule at a time over a 15 minute period to help prevent nausea and vomiting.

Take all of the medicine in your prescription to clear up your infection, even if you feel better after the first few doses.

This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to flucytosine, or if you have dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) enzyme deficiency (rare hereditary problem).

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, blood or bone marrow problems, or a weak immune system.

Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

If this medicine makes you dizzy or drowsy, avoid driving or using machinery.

This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight and cause a rash or sunburn. Avoid being in the sun for long periods. Protect your skin with sunscreen and clothing when you are outside.

If this medicine makes you dizzy or drowsy, avoid driving or using machinery.

  • Dark urine or pale stools, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes
  • Dry mouth, increased thirst, muscle cramps
  • Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches
  • Shaking, trembling, sweating, faintness or lightheadedness, hunger, confusion
  • Dizziness or drowsiness
  • Hearing loss, headache
  • Mild diarrhea
  • Skin rash
