Desvenlafaxine is used to treat depression. Desvenlafaxine is in a class of medications called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). It works by increasing the amounts of serotonin and norepinephrine, natural substances in the brain that help maintain mental balance.

Desvenlafaxine ER comes in the form of a long acting tablet and is used to treat depression. It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances, such as serotonin, in the brain. This may then lead to improved mood and feelings of well-being. Common side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness and anxiety. Desvenlafaxine ER is classified as a SSNRI.

Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you. It is best to take this medicine at the same time each day.

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not dissolve, crush, break, or chew it.

Unusual bleeding or bruising

Do not use this medicine together with an MAO inhibitor (MAOI) or if you have used an MAOI within the past 14 days. Do not take an MAOI for at least 7 days after you stop this medicine.
