Injection routeYou may be taught how to give your medicine at home. Make sure you understand all instructions before giving yourself an injection. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to.

A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine.

Missed dose: You must use this medicine on a fixed schedule. Call your doctor or pharmacist if you miss a dose.

This medicine is given as a shot into a muscle, joint, or skin, or as a shot into a lesion on your skin.

Injection routeThrow away used needles in a hard, closed container that the needles cannot poke through. Keep this container away from children and pets.

Injection routeAsk your pharmacist, doctor, or health caregiver about the best way to dispose of any leftover medicine, containers, and other supplies. Throw away old medicine after the expiration date has passed.

This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to betamethasone, or if you have idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (blood disorder).

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, a recent heart attack, thyroid problems, diarrhea, stomach or bowel problems (including ulcer, colitis, diverticulitis), kidney problems, high blood pressure, heart failure, eye problems, any kind of infection (including amebiasis, worm infestation, cerebral malaria, herpes simplex in the eye), myasthenia gravis, mental problems, or a history of tuberculosis (TB). Tell your doctor if you have had a brain injury.

This medicine may cause the following problems:High blood pressureAdrenal gland problemsEye or vision problems, including cataracts, increased eye pressure, and glaucomaCancer (including Kaposi's sarcoma), when used for a long timeIncreased risk for stomach or bowel perforation (tear or hole)Joint problemsIncreased risk of osteoporosis

It may be easier for you to get an infection while you are receiving this medicine. If you are exposed to chickenpox or measles, tell your doctor right away.

Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments. You may need your eyes be checked by an eye doctor (ophthalmologist) if you use this medicine for more than 6 weeks.

Do not stop using this medicine suddenly. Your doctor will need to slowly decrease your dose before you stop it completely.

Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect certain medical test results.

Sudden and severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting

Some medicines can affect how betamethasone sodium phosphate/betamethasone acetate works. Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following: Aminoglutethimide, amphotericin B, carbamazepine, cholestyramine, clarithromycin, cyclosporine, digitalis, isoniazid, itraconazole, ketoconazole, phenobarbital, phenytoin, rifampin, ritonavirBirth control pills (including estrogen)Antibiotic medicineBlood thinner (including warfarin)Cobicistat-containing productsDiuretic (water pill)Insulin or oral diabetes medicineNSAID pain or arthritis medicine (including aspirin, celecoxib, diclofenac, ibuprofen, naproxen)

This medicine may interfere with vaccines. Ask your doctor before you get a flu shot or any other vaccines.

You may need to be on a salt-restricted diet or take potassium supplements. Talk to your doctor if you have concerns about this.

Do not stop using this medicine suddenly. Your doctor will need to slowly decrease your dose before you stop it completely.

Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect certain medical test results.

Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

  • Slow growth in children, bone pain
  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Blurred vision or changes in vision, pain or watering in your eyes
  • Changes in skin color, dark freckles, cold feeling, weakness, tiredness, weight loss
  • Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches
  • Muscle weakness or cramps
  • Swelling in your hands, ankles, feet, or joints
  • Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness
  • Sudden and severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting
  • Pain or stiffness in your joints
  • Swelling in your hands, ankles, feet, or joints
  • Pain, burning, redness, or swelling under your skin where the needle is placed
  • Weight gain around your neck, upper back, face, or waist
  • Weight gain around your neck, upper back, face, or waist
