Zafirlukast is used to prevent asthma symptoms. Zafirlukast is in a class of medications called leukotriene receptor antagonists (LTRAs). It works by blocking the action of certain natural substances that cause swelling and tightening of the airways.

Accolate is a prescribed medication used to treat asthma. It works to block the chemical that causes swelling in the lungs and tightness of the muscles around your airways. This reduces shortness of breath, wheezing, and other asthma symptoms.

Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

Take this medicine on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.

Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use if you had an allergic reaction to zafirlukast, or if you have liver disease (including cirrhosis).

Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.

Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
